NRMS vs. water depth

Data completeness for source-eligible records

Coverage is a percentage of filtered Grade A–C records with a reported value. It does not compare the magnitude or quality of unlike engineering metrics.

How benchmark metrics and source grades are handled
  • Grade A points to a canonical technical publication; Grade B to a direct project or operator publication; Grade C to a discovery or search record requiring item-level confirmation; Grade D is provisional or contains explicitly estimated fields.
  • Grade D records remain visible when requested but are excluded from medians, data-completeness percentages, and the scatter plot.
  • Each median is calculated in its own unit; unlike metrics are never combined into one score.
  • Numeric ranges use the midpoint only for plotting and summary calculations, while the original range remains visible in tooltips and the table.
  • Censored values using “<” or “>” are counted as reported for data coverage but excluded from point estimates.
  • Repeat intervals are converted to years before calculating the median; months and weeks are converted proportionally.
  • Land projects and fields marked N/A are excluded from water-depth calculations rather than assigned a zero.
