Gold Standard Engineered Removals Activity Requirements (2025)

Gold Standard published its Engineered Removals Activity Requirements on July 22, 2025: high-level integrity requirements for engineered CO2 removal seeking certification, as the basis for subsequent methodology and project development. The framework sits above future removal methodologies the way the standard long governed clean-development crediting — additionality, permanence, safeguards and MRV principles first, project rules after. The prior 2023 date in the database lacked official backing and is corrected here. For CCUS the relevance is gatekeeping: any engineered removal (including DAC-plus-storage and BECCS pathways touching geological stores) will need to clear these requirements before Gold Standard methodologies can credit it.
