Brazilian Emissions Trading System (SBCE) — Law No. 15,042/2024
Law No. 15,042/2024 establishes the Brazilian Emissions Trading System (SBCE) as a regulated environment for limiting greenhouse-gas emissions and trading assets representing emissions, verified reductions or verified removals. The law expressly includes direct air capture and storage among possible removal technologies and establishes phased implementation, registry, reporting, verification and compliance architecture. It does not authorise geological CO2 storage projects; the CCS operating and authorisation framework remains governed separately by Law No. 14,993/2024 and ANP regulation.
