China Batch of 12 CCUS National Standards (2025)

China published a coordinated batch of 12 national CCUS standards on 31 December 2025, with implementation from 1 July 2026. The batch establishes a common technical vocabulary and covers major interfaces across the CCUS chain, including post-combustion capture-system requirements and performance evaluation, CO2 stream quality and transport, geological storage, storage associated with CO2-enhanced oil recovery, and greenhouse-gas reduction accounting. Representative standards include GB/T 46877-2025 on general requirements for post-combustion capture systems, GB/T 46870.2-2025 on performance evaluation for capture plants integrated with power stations, and GB/T 46871-2025 on CO2 storage using enhanced oil recovery. Most instruments in the batch are GB/T recommended national standards: they improve technical consistency, procurement specifications, data comparability and project interfaces, but do not replace environmental approvals, injection licences, land or pore-space rights, or operator liability rules.
